Betz White's Fab Felt Holidays Blog Tour: Gingerbread House!

By-Angel

You know how we love Betz White around here, so when she contacted us to see if we'd like to participate in the Blog Tour for her new online workshop Fab Felt Holiday Crafts we were excited to say yes! She allowed us to preview the course and choose the project we'd like to make. Sweet.

In the Fab Felt Holiday Crafts course, Betz shows you the basics of felting wool sweaters, and then takes you through the steps to make 7 beautiful felt projects, from a tabletop village to ornaments, bottle sleeves, slippers and more. Perfect for holiday decorations and gifts!

Doesn't it look amazing? AND, get this: Betz is offering Stumbles & Stitches readers $10 off the price of the course by using this link to sign up. The workshop should then cost you only $24.99. So what are you waiting for? Go sign up now!

I chose the gingerbread house from Betz's workshop, isn't it cute? The scale is a bit smaller on this one because I printed the template off on 8.5 by 11 instead of the 8.5 by 14 called for in the tutorial.

I LOVED using a video tutorial to make this project. I pre-cut my felt, assembled all my materials and the minute Silas went down for his nap, I just hit "play" and worked along with Betz right there at my desk! I would pause the video when I needed to finish up a step (I listened to Spotify while I worked) and then when I was ready to move on I could pick right back up where I left off. I am such a procrastinator, having Betz to talk me along while I worked kept me on track and I learned a lot of tricks along the way. My favorite: using a combination of craft glue and handstitching makes quick work of felt projects without sacrificing handmade quality.

I decided to put my little gingerbread house onto a tree slice with some white wool roving for snow, the little trees are just needle felted shapes around a pipe cleaner armature. (You can be sure Betz's pine tree decorations are next on my list, check out Jenny's version here!)

There are so many fun details in Betz's pattern, and the customization possibilities are endless. Give yourself a quiet afternoon and you can create a whole village thanks to the super clear instructions, patterns and glossary in the Fab Felt Holiday online workshop. Watching Betz's handiwork is quite a treat, and I guarantee you will learn something from this talented and creative artist!

Ian has already called dibs on this gingerbread house, so I have a feeling I'll be whipping up one or two more before Christmas arrives! I can't wait to make the garland from the workshop, it is just too fabulous and I have a bin full of scraps that will be perfect.

Thanks again Betz for asking Stumbles and Stitches to participate in your Blog Tour, it was so much fun!

  1. Gah! It's so stinkin' cute! I can't tell, but did you reduce the scale? It's adorable!

  2. Betz, thank you for mentioning that! I'll go back and add that in. I did not have 8.5 by 14 paper so printed it off on regular 8.5 by 11. That definitely made it smaller!
